School Donations

The school depends for its financing on the donations of  parents.  The government pays  teachers’  salaries,  but  all  resources that the school needs have to be financed totally by the parents.

It is therefore essential that all parents give their contribution.  Donations are received by the school every beginning of term or at the beginning of the scholastic year.

Break Supervisions

During breaks, the girls are supervised by teachers and/or  support staff.

Prize Day

Prize Day is a very important occasion.  We do not reward only those who achieve academically but also those who show special qualities like perseverance, effort and altruism.

Merit and Report Cards

The school wishes to encourage good behaviour and reward effort and outstanding achievement.  Therefore at St Monica’s  we  have  a system  of  Report Cards to serve as a deterrent against bad behaviour and a system of Merit Cards to reward positive acts and achievements.

Care for Students’ Health

Primary School students are not allowed to bring sweets to school and Fruit Breaks are organized by Primary School Teachers to promote healthy eating.

Regular visits are paid to school by a medical team, a dentist and various speakers on matters of health.

Students are vaccinated according to the laws of the Health Unit.

Guidance and Counselling

The school has a resident Guidance teacher and 2 Counsellors (one Primary, one Secondary) who offer guidance and  counselling  to  all  students  and  parents who request it.  Guidance visits are also organized throughout the year and  speakers  are  invited  to  talk  to  students on matters of interest to them.

School Transport

School Transport is the responsibility of the parents.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Various activities—vocational, cultural, sports, music and drama—are organized after school hours and even during the weekends.  Outings are organized during the summer holidays for various classes.  These activities are under the supervision of teachers and the school contacts the parents to obtain their permission whenever such activities are organized.

P.T.A.

The school has a Parent Teacher Association, secretary Dr Mark Vassallo, that holds regular meetings, fund-raising and  educational activities to ensure that parents and school work hand in hand for our children’s education.  A number of sub-committees to organize Spiritual activities, Fund-raising events and Educational talks form part of the PTA.

Parents may volunteer to help during PTA activities.

The Monicas

This is a magazine which is published every year by the three St Monica Schools.   It contains articles  and  other  information and photographs about the three schools of B’Kara, Gzira, and Mosta.

Students’ work may be in Maltese, English, French, Italian or German.  It may be in the form of short write-ups about various school activities.  Informative articles by staff members about educational topics are also included in the magazine
